Welcome to Year 6S’s class page 2020-2021
It is an exciting year for your children as they continue their journey through school and move into their final year here at Our Lady & St Gerard’s. In Year 6, I have high expectations of all of the children, through behaviour and being ready to learn and grow as a team and individuals. I will be encouraging the children to become more independent and to take responsibility for organising themselves and their belongings.
Our classroom is a happy and positive working environment, where praise and encouragement are used to motivate and support all of the children. I ask that each child tries their best and develops a resilient attitude towards learning. Together, we have devised a set of class rules. Each child has signed these as a promise to work together as a team and strive to be the very best they can be. As a class, the children have spoken very honestly about the areas of learning that they feel they would like to improve and have approached the new year with positive attitudes and a determination to succeed.
Throughout the year, lots of new and exciting learning will take place. Your children will be challenged to be the very best they can be and encouraged to take part in every aspect of school life. I value the support you give your child at home with reading, spelling, learning times tables and delving into any topic based research or interests your children may express.
Year 6 Overview of Themes 2020-2021
Home Learning 2019-2020
Fun Times 2019-2020
Postcards of Kindness 2019-2020
Postcards of kindness is a group set up to help combat loneliness in older people living in care homes.
The group has over 25,000 members, who send small notes about their day to day life and their days out to care homes registered with the scheme.
This helps older people remember things that happened to them when they were younger and initiate conversation.
Here in Y6S, we decided that we would like to take part in this initiative.
We have designed, written and sent our first postcards to four care homes around the country. Through following the 5Ws of Witness and Welfare, we are hoping to bring a little bit of happiness to those who may feel lonely or sad.
World War 2 2019-2020
To start our new topic on WW2, we listened to the speech given by Neville Chamberlain on September 3rd 1939, informing the British public that Britain was at war with Germany. The children then made 'gas masks' and 'gas mask boxes' in preparation for the German invasion.
