What is FOLSG?

FOLSG (Friends of Our Lady & St. Gerard's) is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for our school, providing closer links between home and school. It brings staff and parents together socially in support of the school and working towards a common goal.

Who Are FOLSG?

All parents and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available.

What Do FOLSG do?

The FOLSG PTA is focused on raising money for our children whilst bringing the community closer together through fun social events. Examples over the past few years include family bingo nights, discos for the children, raffles, Bags to School collections, fashion shows and even a circus!  We also aim to support parents through 'Pre-loved uniform' sales and Pre-loved Christmas jumper swaps.

What Happens to the Money Raised by FOLSG?

Money raised is used to buy something that we agree will be of benefit to the children.  We listen to requests from the children and teachers whilst also suggesting ideas at our meetings before a final decision is made.  Smaller items can be bought almost immediately, however larger items may perhaps need a few events to create enough revenue.  The PTA have contributed to playground resources, special events and curriculum enhancements.

What Do FOLSG Have Planned?

We have a variety of events planned such as a family bingo night, a coffee morning and Christmas events.

How Can I Join FOLSG?

Watch out for dates of our next meeting. We publish these on our website, on Classdojo and in the weekly newsletter. Come along and join us.

What Should I Expect By Joining FOLSG?

We usually have a meeting in school every 4 to 6 weeks to discuss recent and forthcoming events.  We also discuss any requests for items we can purchase.  Meetings are usually on a Monday night straight

If you want to join FOLSG but are unable to attend meetings or offer your help regularly that's absolutely fine as we can add you to our email group so you can still receive the minutes of the meeting.  You can then offer your services as and when you are able to.   We really appreciate any time that you can give to help the school, no matter how short or infrequent it is, so don’t be afraid to say what you are or what you're not able to do.

Anything Else I Should Know?

The PTA is a registered charity.  This enables us to apply for Gift Aid and take advantage of charity matched giving schemes.  We are also more likely to be eligible for grants and get support from local businesses. Our Charity number is 1112348.

FOLSG belongs to the PTA-UK which gives us member benefits such as a comprehensive public liability insurance package, advice on fund-raising ideas, notice of legal updates and an extensive list of PTA information and resources.  The PTA-UK website (www.pta.org.uk) is full of ideas and examples of what we can do to raise funds in the future, so please take a look and let us know if there are any new ideas you would like us to implement within school.
