Year 4: Pankhurst class
Welcome to 4P class!
Your teacher is Mrs Eastham
Welcome back! I hope you have had a relaxing summer break.
I am looking forward to working with you to support your child as they enter Year 4. I have high hopes and expectations of all of the children, both for their behaviour and for their attitude to learning. Our classroom is a positive working environment where praise and encouragement are used to motivate and support all of the children. They love to receive acknowledgement for their hard work and best behaviour, and they are working towards collecting Class Dojo rewards.
Together, we have been discussing our school Behaviour Charter, Be Safe, Be a Learner, Be Kind and Respectful, and how it will help us to enjoy our time in school. Throughout the year, lots of new and exciting learning will take place. For example, we learn about the Great Plague, Ancient Egypt and electricity. Your children will be challenged to be the very best they can be and encouraged to take part in every aspect of school life. I am looking forward to celebrating their achievements and seeing them progress through Year 4.
This year our PE lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Later in the year, Year 4 will be having swimming lessons. It is important that children always have the correct PE kits in school. PE kit consists of a white t-shirt (with or without school logo), blue sports shorts and pumps for indoors/trainers for outdoors. In the cold weather, children are welcomed to wear their blue school jumper over their white t-shirt and a plain pair of blue tracksuit bottoms/joggers.
This term, in our English lessons we are going to read a range of stories including the Loch Ness Monster and A Firework Maker’s Daughter. In Maths we will be working with numbers to 10,000 and fractions. We will be learning about Biomes. In Art, we studying about Picasso and creating our own self- portraits. In our Science topics we will be studying Sound and Electricity.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can contact me using the class Dojo.

Our Behaviour Charter
Our school Behaviour Policy is built upon the ‘5 pillars of Pivotal Practice’ (‘When Adults Change, Everything Changes’, Paul Dix):
Consistent, calm adult behaviour,
Relentless Routines,
First attention to best conduct,
Scripting difficult conversations,
Restorative Follow-up.
We have three simple goals: Be safe, Be a Learner, Be Kind and Respectful.

Recommended Reading Books
We have selected these recommended reading lists from Peters Education to ensure that our children have access to a wide range of books. These books are all available in school and form our 'core' texts in our class libraries. These lists are chosen because they:
- link with our curriculum for each year group
- represent different cultures
- introduce children to new authors and expand their knowledge of familiar authors
- ensure progression
- match topics of interests for our children
- tackle current themes
