Year 4: Edison class
Welcome to the Year 4 Edison Class
Your Class Teacher is Mrs Winster
Your Classroom Teaching Assistant is Mrs Martin
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
The Autumn term is always one of my favourites because I love seeing the children discover a new curriculum and become excited about the opportunities that lay ahead of them.
I'm excited to working with you this year to support your child as they enter Year 4. Our class culture allows children to grow and learn in a positive environment where their unique gifts and talents are always celebrated. I have high expectations of all of the children, both for their behaviour and for their attitude to learning.
Our classroom is a place where each child can explore their own faith and develop their relationship with God. We use the 'Come and See' Religious education programme as the basis of our religious teaching. Prayer, Liturgy and Worship are an essential part of daily life and Children will have opportunities throughout the day to strengthen their relationship with God through Prayer, Liturgy and Worship.
Throughout the year, lots of new and exciting learning will take place. Your child will be challenged to be the very best they can be and encouraged to take part in every aspect of school life. In our English lessons this term will read a range of stories including The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster and A Firework Maker’s Daughter. In Maths, we will work with numbers up to 10,000 and learning formal methods of column addition and subtraction. A focus in Year 4 is multiplication and it would benefit your child to be practising their timetables. We will learn about Biomes in our Geography unit and the Great Plague in our History unit. In Art, we will study and explore the work of Picasso and use his art to inspire our self-portraits.
This year, PE lessons will take place on Monday and Wednesday. Year 4 will have swimming lessons, more information will be provided closer to the time. Children must always have the correct PE kits in school. PE kit consists of a white t-shirt (with or without the school logo), blue sports shorts and pumps for indoors/trainers for outdoors. In the cold weather, children are welcome to wear their blue school jumper over their white t-shirt and a plain pair of blue tracksuit bottoms/joggers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can contact me using the class Dojo.

Recommended Reading Books
We have selected these recommended reading lists from Peters Education to ensure that our children have access to a wide range of books. These books are all available in school and form our 'core' texts in our class libraries. These lists are chosen because they:
- link with our curriculum for each year group
- represent different cultures
- introduce children to new authors and expand their knowledge of familiar authors
- ensure progression
- match topics of interests for our children
- tackle current themes
