British Values
Promoting British Values at our school
The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy. At our school, these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:
In addition, classes from Year 2 and above keep abreast of what is going on in the UK and the rest of the world by watching BBC Newsround Daily. This offers scope for discussion on a variety of topics and encourages the children to find out more about what interests them via the BBC website.
Topics of interest recently have been the General Election in England which took place in the Summer of 2024 and also the Euros Football Tournament.
