At Our lady and St. Gerard’s RC Primary School, we teach Spanish as a Foreign Language to all pupils in KS2. The teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language focuses on the skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and Intercultural Understanding. The National Curriculum Programmes of study are delivered in topics throughout each year group to ensure that all pupils progress and develop a deeper understanding of the Spanish Language. 

The teaching of Spanish uses a multi-sensory approach to learning to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible to foster pupil’s curiosity and understanding. This approach develops a positive attitude in the pupil’s learning and encourages them to have an active part in speaking Spanish. Rhymes and songs, games, books and ICT are used to support the learning of new vocabulary. Assessment is ongoing.
