School Meals

School Meals

The school kitchen is run by Lancashire County Commercial Services. Recently we were very fortunate to have our kitchen totally remodelled and all new equipment installed in time for the new initiative entitling all key stage one children to have a free school meal from September 2014.

The meals are all prepared on site using only high quality ingredients and represent excellent value for money; as such we encourage as many children as possible to take a lunchtime meal.

The Key Stage 1 children are offered a choice of meals on a daily basis.  The Key Stage 2 children are provided with a menu each week and are asked to choose what they would like to eat in advance. A hot meal is available each day but your child may also choose sandwiches or wraps.  Your child may choose to bring a packed lunch but we encourage all children to bring healthy food for their lunch.

For Key Stage 2 children school meals will cost £2.20 a day. We would be grateful if all dinner money could be paid on Monday morning.  Please make any cheques payable to Lancashire County Council.

Although children in Key Stage 1 will receive a free school meal through the new initiative we would still encourage any parent who thinks that they may be entitled to free school meals, via the previous school meals system, to contact the Pupil Access Team on 01772 533608, who will be able to advise you if you qualify.

Break Time Snacks

We are a healthy school and as such we encourage healthy eating.  Key Stage 1 children are provided with a piece of fruit and Key Stage 2 children are encouraged to bring fruit from home.  No crisps, chocolate or sweets are allowed at break times.

We encourage all children to drink water during the school day as research shows that it improves mental performance and increases concentration and attention span.  Water bottles may be brought into school and children may refill their water bottles from the sinks in each classroom during the day.

Food Allergies

Lancashire Catering are happy to accommodate medical or cultural diets wherever possible.

Please let us know if your child has been prescribed a medical diet and Lancshire Catering will liaise with the school and dietician where appropriate.
